Ex-Indian intelligence officer charged for directing plot to assassinate US citizen in NYC
A former Indian intelligence officer has been charged by U.S. authorities for allegedly directing a plot to assassinate a U.S. citizen in New York City. The target was Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a Sikh separatist advocating for Khalistan, a sovereign Sikh state. Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national, was accused of attempting to hire a hitman, who turned out to be an undercover agent. The plot was disrupted, and Gupta is currently awaiting extradition from the Czech Republic. U.S. officials are investigating potential Indian government involvement
